In Gazipur, police from Tongi East Police Station have arrested two individuals in possession of a foreign-made pistol. The arrests were made in the early hours of Thursday (23 April) during an operation conducted in the Pagaar Pathanpara area of Tongi.
According to police reports, the operation led to the recovery of one foreign pistol along with a magazine from the possession of the arrested individuals. The raid was carried out following intelligence-based information linked to a case already registered with the police.
The arrested persons have been identified as Jasim (40), son of the late Shahidul Islam of Pagaar Pathanpara area in Tongi, and Shariful Alam Arif (32), son of the late Nur Rahman from Naya Kuthirpara village in Lalmonirhat Sadar district. Both individuals were taken into custody from the same locality during the early morning operation.
Police stated that recent violent incidents in the Pagaar Jhinuk Market area, involving clashes and gunfire over the establishment of local dominance, prompted heightened surveillance and investigative action in the area. Acting on confidential information, law enforcement officers identified and apprehended the two suspects, who were named in the First Information Report (FIR) connected to the earlier incident.
Following their arrest, police conducted further searches based on information provided by the detainees. As a result, the foreign pistol and magazine were recovered from a rented room in the residence of a person identified as Mojibur in the Pathanpara area. The recovery formed part of the ongoing investigation into the recent violent events reported in the locality.
The operation was confirmed by the Officer-in-Charge of Tongi East Police Station, Mehedi Hasan. He stated that the arrested individuals will be charged under the relevant legal provisions and subsequently produced before the court as part of the judicial process.
Law enforcement authorities further noted that investigative procedures are ongoing in relation to the broader incident of violence and the role of the accused individuals. Additional legal actions will be determined in accordance with the findings of the investigation.
