Two Bodies Recovered in Thakurgaon

Police in Thakurgaon district have recovered the bodies of two individuals in separate incidents in Baliadangi and Ranishankail upazilas, prompting the initiation of separate unnatural death cases. The recoveries were made on Monday (18 May), and authorities have begun standard legal and investigative procedures in both cases.

The first incident occurred in Dogachi (Girchapara) village under Baliadangi upazila, where the body of a 68-year-old man, identified as Sushil Chandra Roy, was recovered. According to family members and local sources, Mr Roy had been suffering from multiple long-term health complications. It is alleged that at around 7:15 pm on Sunday evening, he consumed pesticide without the knowledge of his family members. Shortly afterwards, when his condition deteriorated, relatives rushed him to a local rural medical practitioner, who declared him dead.

His younger brother, Molin Chandra Roy, stated that the deceased had been living with various illnesses for approximately 18 years and had endured prolonged physical suffering. The family believes that this ongoing distress may have contributed to his death. As no formal complaint was lodged by the family, they requested that the body be released without a post-mortem examination following legal formalities. Baliadangi Police Station has recorded an unnatural death case in connection with the incident.

In a separate incident the same night, police recovered the hanging body of a 20-year-old man, Swapan Kumar Roy, from his bedroom in Ujdhari village under Hosengaon Union of Ranishankail upazila. The deceased was employed as a motorcycle mechanic and had recently returned to his home after staying in Dhaka.

Local accounts suggest that while he was working in Dhaka, his wife, who is pregnant, was staying at her father’s residence. It is reported that a domestic disagreement arose regarding bringing her back to his home. After having dinner with family members, everyone went to sleep. Subsequently, Swapan Kumar Roy is believed to have taken his own life by hanging himself using a scarf from a ceiling fan in his room. His body was discovered by family members the following morning.

Police from Ranishankail Police Station visited the scene, conducted an inquest examination, and recovered the body for further legal procedures. An unnatural death case has also been filed in this regard.
