Two teenage students have gone missing in Cumilla’s Chauddagram after leaving their homes to attend a madrasa, leaving their families deeply concerned as there has been no trace of them for four days.
The missing students have been identified as Mahima Akter Mahi and Tanisha Akter, both ninth-grade students at Kashinagar Al Amin Madrasa. Their homes are in Jugirkandi village of Kashinagar Union in Chauddagram upazila.
According to their families and police, the two girls left their respective homes at around 8.30am on Thursday, 24 September, intending to go to the madrasa. They did not, however, arrive at the institution that day.
When the girls failed to return home after the usual time, their families began searching for them. Relatives and others looked in several places where the two might have gone, but the search produced no information about their whereabouts. Four days later, their families remain without any confirmed information.
The matter was formally reported to police on Sunday afternoon, when Mahima’s mother, Taslima Akter, filed a general diary at Chauddagram Police Station. Later that evening, news of the girls’ disappearance spread on social media, prompting further concern among local residents and those familiar with the families.
Taslima Akter said Mahima had left home with her classmate Tanisha to attend the madrasa. She said the family had searched in several possible locations but had been unable to find any trace of her daughter. She also appealed to the authorities to assist in locating both students.
Tanisha’s family is facing a similar situation. The fact that the two students disappeared while reportedly travelling to the same educational institution has added to the concern among their relatives, who are waiting for information about their safety and whereabouts.
Moiniruzzaman, principal of Kashinagar Al Amin Madrasa, said the two students were absent from classes on Thursday. The institution later learnt from their families that the girls had gone missing while on their way to the madrasa.
Chauddagram Model Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Arif Hossain said a general diary had been filed at the police station on Sunday afternoon concerning the disappearance of the two students. He said police were using information technology to assist the search and were making efforts to locate them.
The families have continued looking for the girls while seeking assistance from the authorities. With no confirmed information available four days after their disappearance, their relatives are particularly concerned about their safety and are hoping they can be traced and returned home as soon as possible.
Police efforts to establish the girls’ whereabouts are continuing, while the families and local community remain closely engaged in the search.
