Two schoolboys have tragically died after drowning while bathing in the DND Lake in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, in a deeply distressing incident that has shocked the local community.
The deceased, Monirul (15) and Shuvo (15), were both seventh-grade students at Gudnail Bagpara Alim Madrasa. Their bodies were recovered from the lake early on Wednesday (12 May) at around 6:00 am, following an overnight search operation and assistance from local residents.
According to police and family accounts, the incident occurred on Tuesday (11 May) afternoon. After completing their school examination, the boys joined friends for a game of football at Navana field. Later, a group of five friends went to the nearby DND Lake area, close to Bridge No. 1 in the Nayapara area of Barnastand, for bathing.
While three of the boys returned home safely after swimming, Monirul and Shuvo failed to come back, prompting concern among their families. Relatives launched searches across the area throughout the night but were unable to locate them.
By early morning, local residents spotted two bodies floating in the lake and immediately informed the police. Officers from Siddhirganj Police Station arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and completed the initial inquest report.
Police Sub-Inspector Md. Masum Billah stated that there were no immediate signs of foul play and that the incident appeared to be a tragic drowning. As no formal complaints were lodged by the families, the bodies were handed over to the relatives after legal procedures were completed.
