Two Women Found Hanging in Separate Faridpur Incidents

Police recovered the hanging bodies of two women in separate incidents in Faridpur’s Sadarpur Upazila on the same day, prompting ongoing legal procedures as investigators seek to establish the circumstances surrounding both deaths.

According to police, the incidents occurred on Sunday, 28 June, in two different unions of the upazila. The deceased were identified as 42-year-old Lipi Akter, wife of Obaidul Munshi from Nijgram village in Krishnapur Union, and 13-year-old Nasrin Akter, the daughter of Bulu Munshi from Chhamir Haji Kandi village in Bhasanchar Union.

Police sources said Lipi Akter had been suffering from cancer for a prolonged period and had reportedly been experiencing depression linked to her illness. On Sunday evening, family members discovered her hanging from a beam inside the cowshed of her home, with an orna tied around her neck. They immediately informed the police, who arrived at the scene and recovered the body.

In the separate incident, Nasrin Akter’s family said she had been living with a mental health condition since childhood. On Sunday afternoon, she remained inside her room without eating and locked the door from within. When repeated calls from her mother, Nazma Begum, went unanswered, other family members helped force the door open. They found Nasrin hanging inside the room and alerted the police, who later recovered her body.

Both incidents occurred within hours of each other but at different locations, and police have not indicated any connection between the two cases. Initial findings suggest the deaths took place under separate personal circumstances, based on information provided by the respective families.

Sub-Inspector Asaduzzaman Ripon of Sadarpur Police Station said inquest reports had been prepared for both bodies following their recovery. He added that the legal process is continuing in accordance with standard procedure, while the authorities complete the necessary investigations before reaching any formal conclusions.

Police have not disclosed any evidence of foul play at this stage. As is customary in such cases, investigators are examining the available evidence and statements from family members as part of the ongoing inquiry to determine the exact circumstances surrounding both deaths.
