An unidentified elderly man, estimated to be around 60 years old, was pronounced dead after being found unconscious near the emergency department waiting room at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday morning.
Hospital personnel discovered the non-responsive individual close to the waiting area shortly before 9:15 am and immediately transferred him inside for treatment. Upon examination, attending physicians confirmed that the man had already passed away. Details regarding his identity, how he arrived at the premises, or whether anyone accompanied him prior to his collapse remain unknown.
Word Master Ayyub Ali, attached to the DMCH emergency unit, confirmed the sequence of events and noted that the hospital administration notified the on-site police outpost without delay.
Inspector Habiburb Rahman, who leads the DMCH Police Camp, stated that the body has been transferred to the hospital morgue. Law enforcement officers have initiated fingerprint identification protocols and digital database checks to establish the man’s identity. Once verified, authorities plan to locate and contact his family members.
As the largest public tertiary healthcare establishment in Bangladesh, DMCH routinely copes with thousands of visitors daily. The surrounding compounds and corridors frequently serve as temporary shelter for destitute individuals, displaced persons, and unattended patients arriving from across the nation. Incidents involving unidentified individuals collapsing on hospital grounds are periodically documented, often linked to severe chronic illnesses, extreme heat, or untreated conditions exacerbated by poverty.
The exact cause of death has not yet been determined. Forensic experts and medical examiners are expected to conduct routine preliminary assessments to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death. Police officers confirmed that the body will remain in the mortuary pending legal procedures and identification efforts.
