An unidentified young man, estimated to be around 22 years old, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital late on Friday night, hours after being discovered unconscious and suffering from visible physical injuries near a local police station in the capital.
The incident unfolded at approximately 8:00 pm on Friday inside the grounds of the former Sheikh Jamal Government Secondary School, situated directly opposite Kamrangirchar Police Station. A passer-by, identified as Md Nazim, noticed the young man lying motionless on one side of the school grounds. Upon closer inspection, Nazim spotted distinct marks of physical trauma across the victim’s body.
Recognising the severity of the situation, Nazim immediately rallied nearby residents and local shopkeepers. Together, the group rescued the unconscious youth and arranged urgent transportation to the emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Despite the immediate intervention by emergency medical staff, the victim’s condition deteriorated rapidly upon admission. Attending doctors rendered critical care in an attempt to stabilise him, but he was officially declared dead at around 10:00 pm.
According to Inspector Md Faruk, head of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost, the deceased was wearing black trousers and a short-sleeved t-shirt at the time of his admission. Authorities have transferred the body to the hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to establish the exact cause of death and determine whether the injuries were sustained in a physical assault.
The proximity of the crime scene to a police precinct has raised concern among local residents regarding public safety and night-time security in the area. Law enforcement officials from Kamrangirchar Police Station have been formally notified of the fatality. Investigators are currently attempting to ascertain the victim’s identity using biometric fingerprint scanning technologies alongside reviewing closed-circuit television footage from surrounding establishments to reconstruct the events leading up to the young man’s death.
