US Strikes on Iran Trigger Fresh Missile Attack on Jordan

Iran launched another missile attack towards Jordan hours after the United States carried out a major assault on Iranian military installations, deepening fears that the widening conflict could draw more countries directly into the confrontation.

Jordanian air-defence systems intercepted five missiles launched from Iran, according to the country’s state news agency, citing a spokesman for the Jordanian Armed Forces. The military said the missiles were brought down and that there were no reported casualties. The latest incident underscores the growing pressure on Jordan, which has increasingly found itself exposed to the regional conflict because of its strategic location and close security ties with Washington.

The missile launches came shortly after US forces conducted a major operation against targets linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. US Central Command said the strikes lasted for more than two hours and targeted a range of military facilities, including command centres, missile and drone installations, as well as coastal surveillance and defence positions. The operation was presented as a response to Iranian attacks against US forces and was intended to reduce what Washington described as continuing threats to American personnel and regional security.

The latest exchange followed warnings from US President Donald Trump that Iran would face a forceful response after attacks involving American military positions in Jordan. The sequence of events has raised concerns that retaliatory strikes could become a cycle of escalation, with military operations increasingly extending beyond the immediate US-Iran confrontation.

Jordan has repeatedly been drawn into the conflict as missiles and other projectiles cross its airspace. Its armed forces have maintained a high level of readiness and have intercepted several Iranian missiles in recent weeks. Amman has stressed that it will not allow its territory or airspace to become a battlefield, while continuing to protect its sovereignty and civilian population.

The repercussions have also been felt inside Iran. Iranian state media reported strikes and explosions in several locations, including Qeshm Island, where at least two people were reportedly injured. Explosions were also reported in Khuzestan province, adding to the picture of a conflict spreading across multiple areas and involving a growing number of military targets.

Tensions have also intensified in Iraq, where US and Saudi forces reportedly carried out joint strikes against Iran-aligned armed groups following attacks linked to those groups. The developments have widened the conflict’s geographical scope and increased the risk that regional actors could become directly involved in the fighting.

Meanwhile, a separate incident in Egypt added another layer of concern over the security of regional energy infrastructure. Two natural-gas vessels caught fire after a reported drone attack at the port of Damietta, according to maritime security reporting. One was a US-owned floating gas storage vessel and the other was a Greek-owned tanker. No casualties were reported, and no group had claimed responsibility at the time of reporting.

The simultaneous attacks and counter-strikes have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict. With military activity now affecting Jordan, Iraq, Iran and Egypt, the crisis is no longer confined to a direct confrontation between Washington and Tehran. The continued targeting of military facilities, energy infrastructure and strategic locations is also raising concerns about wider disruptions to shipping, fuel supplies and regional stability.
