Born in 1953 on Green Road in Dhaka, where she also grew up, the venerable actress has entered a poignant phase of her life, standing on the cusp of completing half a century in the entertainment industry next year. Over five decades, her luminous career has spanned stage, radio, television, and the silver screen, earning her an irreplaceable position in the hearts of millions.
An alumna of the University of Dhaka, where she studied Sociology, Dolly Johur began her acting journey in the mid-1970s. She married fellow actor Johurul Islam in 1976. Tragically, her husband passed away two decades ago, leaving a void she still feels deeply. Whilst her only son, Riasat, resides in Australia with his family and frequently implores her to relocate, her profound affection for her homeland, its people, and the acting fraternity keeps her rooted in Bangladesh.

“I have no special plans for my birthday. Johur left me alone two decades ago, and I miss him at every single moment. My only son lives in Australia and constantly asks me to move there. But I have so much affection and love for this country, its people, the craft of acting, and my colleagues in the industry that I simply do not wish to go anywhere else.”
Seeking blessings from her admirers, she added, “I ask everyone to pray for my health and well-being. The fact that I am still able to act is my greatest blessing. I do not just look for prayers on my birthday; I seek them always.”
