From the early hours of Thursday morning, polling centres across the country witnessed a steady influx of voters as the nation participated in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Citizens, both men and women, queued patiently outside polling stations, National Identity Cards (NIDs) in hand, eager to exercise their democratic rights. Many arrived well ahead of the scheduled opening time, forming orderly lines in anticipation.

Polling officially commenced at 7:30 a.m., and from the outset, the atmosphere at the centres was lively, yet disciplined. Across the capital, Dhaka, and in other regions, an air of celebration accompanied the exercise of the franchise, reflecting the public’s commitment to the electoral process.

Observers touring several Dhaka polling centres noted that voters adhered strictly to queue arrangements. Presiding officers and polling staff carried out all necessary formalities, including sealing ballot boxes and verifying voter identification, before allowing citizens inside.

One voter at a Banani polling station remarked, “I am pleased to cast my vote in such a peaceful environment. I wanted to come early and complete my civic duty without any rush.”

The Election Commission has reported that voting is underway at 42,779 centres nationwide, with significant security measures in place to ensure a smooth process. Law enforcement and security personnel, including members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Ansar, and other agencies, have been deployed to maintain order.

In addition, judicial and executive magistrates are present at various centres to oversee the prevention and immediate action against any electoral offences. The Election Commission expressed confidence that voting would proceed peacefully and that citizens would be able to exercise their franchise without hindrance.
