Woman Found Dead in Jhenaidah

A young female hotel worker has been found dead in a rented residence in the Jhenaidah town area of Paglakanai, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her sudden death.

The deceased, identified as Khushi Khatun, was a 22-year-old woman originally from Courtpur village in Ashashuni upazila of Satkhira. She was the daughter of Shahidul Molla. Recently, she had taken up employment at a local eating establishment named Antrik Hotel in the Paglakanai market area.

According to police and local sources, Khushi had been living in a rented house on Syadatia Road in the Paglakanai area for only about a week. On Tuesday night, after completing her shift at the hotel, she reportedly returned to the residence accompanied by a man she introduced as her husband.

On Wednesday morning, neighbours noticed that the door to one section of the house remained closed despite unusual silence from inside. After repeated calls went unanswered, they entered the property through a rear entrance. Inside, they discovered Khushi Khatun lying motionless on the floor. She was immediately reported dead.

Local residents stated that they observed marks resembling pressure around her neck and an orna (scarf) lying near the body, raising initial suspicions of strangulation. However, police officials have said that no clear external injury marks were immediately visible on the body at the scene.

The man who had been living with her, introduced earlier as her husband under the name “Sohag”, could not be located following the incident and has reportedly gone missing since the discovery of the body.

The owner of the hotel, Rafiqul Anwar Sabu, stated that Khushi had joined his establishment roughly 15 days earlier and worked until around 10 p.m. on Tuesday before leaving for home. He also noted that she had previously introduced the missing man as her spouse.

The house owner, Baby Karim, confirmed that Khushi had rented the property with the same man, who identified himself as a rickshaw puller named Sohag at the time of renting.

Police officer Md Asaduzzaman confirmed that the body had been recovered and sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. He added that the exact cause of death remains unclear and will be determined following autopsy results and further investigation, particularly once the whereabouts of the missing man are established.
