A tragic road collision in Keraniganj has claimed the lives of two teenage brothers and left two others injured after a head-on crash between a truck and an auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka–Mawa Highway service lane.
The deceased were identified as Nadeem (15) and Rajon (14), sons of Idu Miah from the Pargandaria area under South Keraniganj Police Station. The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 am on Tuesday in the Tighoria passenger shelter area along the highway’s service road.
According to highway police, four friends had taken the auto-rickshaw late at night, heading towards Hasnabad for tea. While travelling along the service lane, their vehicle collided head-on with a sand-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the crash was severe, killing the two brothers instantly at the scene.
The remaining two passengers sustained critical injuries. Local residents rushed to the spot immediately after the collision and rescued the injured individuals, who were subsequently transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment.
Following the incident, officers from the highway police recovered the bodies and sent them to Mitford Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations. The truck involved in the accident was seized, although the driver and assistant reportedly fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Police confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible. The identities of the injured victims have not yet been officially disclosed.
Authorities noted that the accident occurred in the early hours when visibility is often reduced and traffic conditions on service roads can become unpredictable due to mixed vehicle movement, including heavy trucks and smaller passenger transport.
