Woman Held With 2,000 Yaba Tablets in Shibalaya

A 41-year-old woman was detained by local residents in Manikganj’s Shibalaya after she was allegedly found carrying 2,000 yaba tablets while attempting to supply the drugs in the area.

The incident took place at around 11am on Friday in the vicinity of a playground in Jamduara village, Ward 6 of Teota Union, in Shibalaya upazila. Police were later informed and took the woman to the police station for further questioning.

The woman was identified as Jahanara Khatun, wife of Soleman from Kashinathpur village in Santhia upazila of Pabna. She is currently living in the Nazirganj area of Sujanagar upazila, according to the information provided.

Local residents alleged that Jahanara had been supplying yaba in the area for some time. On Friday morning, residents reportedly saw her in front of the house of a local man, identified as Inna Mia. They detained her and subsequently took her to an area near an Ashrayan project before informing the police.

Police officers arrived at the scene after receiving the information. During a search of Jahanara’s bag, they reportedly found 2,000 yaba tablets, which were subsequently seized.

During questioning, Jahanara reportedly told police that she had supplied yaba to Inna Mia several times over the previous month. Her statement is now being examined as part of the investigation. The authorities have not yet confirmed whether any other individuals were involved in the alleged supply network.

The seizure is significant because the case involves a large quantity of tablets being allegedly transported for supply within the local area. Police are expected to examine the circumstances in which the drugs were brought there, their intended destination and whether others were involved in arranging or receiving the consignment.

The incident also highlights the role of local residents in alerting law-enforcement authorities when they suspect drug-related activity. In this case, residents detained the woman and contacted police, who then took charge of the situation and recovered the suspected drugs.

Shibalaya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Aminul Islam said police took the woman to the station after receiving information about the incident. The yaba recovered from her possession has been seized, he said.

According to the officer, proceedings are under way against Jahanara under the relevant provisions of the Narcotics Control Act. Police are also continuing their efforts to identify and detain people allegedly involved in the drug trade.

The investigation is expected to focus not only on the seized tablets but also on the alleged deliveries mentioned during questioning. Authorities will determine the facts of the case through the investigation and the applicable legal process.

Jahanara remains in police custody as the authorities proceed with the case. No further arrests were reported immediately in connection with the incident.
