15-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Sets Another World Record

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s remarkable rise in international cricket continued as the teenage Indian batter added another world record to his rapidly growing list of achievements, this time by becoming the youngest player to win a Player of the Series award in international cricket.

Suryavanshi, still only 15 years and 121 days old, was named Player of the Series after an impressive three-match Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe. He scored 151 runs in just 77 balls, registering two half-centuries and finishing as the leading run-scorer in the series.

The award came at the end of the third and final T20I, giving Suryavanshi another landmark moment in what has been an extraordinary start to his international career. His achievement surpassed the previous record held by Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who was named Player of the Series against Zimbabwe in a one-day international series in 2018 at the age of 16 years and 325 days.

Suryavanshi therefore claimed the record by more than a year, underlining just how extraordinary his early international career has been.

The young batter had already made history earlier in the same series. In the opening match against Zimbabwe, he became the youngest player in international cricket to score a half-century. His fearless approach and ability to score quickly have attracted considerable attention, with the teenager showing an attacking style that has made him one of the most closely watched young cricketers in the game.

The third match, however, brought mixed emotions. Suryavanshi came close to another major milestone as he chased the distinction of becoming the youngest player to score an international century. He appeared to be within touching distance of the record, only for Zimbabwe’s Brad Evans to produce an outstanding catch and deny him the opportunity.

Despite missing out on the century, Suryavanshi still had plenty to celebrate. His performances across the series earned him the Player of the Series trophy and another place in the record books.

Remarkably, this is already the second world record of his six-match international career. His first came with his record-breaking half-century in the opening game of the Zimbabwe series. Now, by becoming the youngest international Player of the Series, Suryavanshi has added another extraordinary achievement to a career that has only just begun.

At 15, the Indian teenager is already producing performances normally associated with far more experienced players. His consistency across the three-match series, combined with his ability to score at a rapid rate, suggests that his emergence is about more than a single memorable innings.
