34 Dengue, 42 Suspected Measles Cases Detected in Faridpur

Thirty-four new dengue cases and 42 suspected measles cases were detected at government hospitals across Faridpur in the 24 hours to 30 September, according to the district health authorities. No new deaths from either disease were reported during the period.

However, the district has recorded six dengue-related deaths and 21 deaths attributed to measles during the first nine months of the year, highlighting the continuing burden on local health services.

The figures were included in a report issued by the Faridpur District Health Department on 30 September.

According to the report, Faridpur Medical College Hospital recorded the highest number of new dengue admissions over the 24-hour period, with 16 patients. Five patients were admitted to Faridpur General Hospital, while Boalmari Upazila Health Complex recorded four new admissions.

Three new dengue patients were admitted each to Bhanga and Madhukhali Upazila Health Complexes. Two were admitted to Sadarpur Upazila Health Complex and one to Nagarkanda Upazila Health Complex.

No new dengue admissions were reported during the same period at Alfadanga, Charbhadrasan or Saltha Upazila Health Complexes.

From January to 30 September, government hospitals in the district recorded a total of 865 dengue patients. The health report said 120 dengue patients were receiving treatment in hospitals during the latest 24-hour period, while 26 patients recovered and were discharged.

The report listed 744 dengue patients as currently undergoing treatment at government hospitals across Faridpur. Although no new dengue deaths were recorded in the latest reporting period, six people have died from the disease in the district since the beginning of the year.

The district is also dealing with a substantial number of suspected measles cases. Forty-two new suspected cases were recorded in the latest 24-hour period, with no deaths reported during that time.

From 1 January to 30 September, the number of suspected measles cases in Faridpur reached 6,308, according to the district health authorities. A total of 21 people died from measles-related causes during the same period.

Of the 42 suspected measles patients identified in the latest 24 hours, 29 were from Faridpur district and 13 came from other districts. Twelve of the patients were admitted to Faridpur General Hospital, while 30 were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

At present, 94 measles patients are receiving treatment at the two hospitals. Forty-two patients were discharged during the same period after receiving treatment.

The district health report also provided figures for suspected measles cases recorded in several upazilas. Boalmari has reported 28 cases so far, followed by Bhanga with 12, Charbhadrasan with 17, Nagarkanda with two, Madhukhali with six, Sadarpur with 14, Saltha with 23 and Faridpur Sadar with five.

Faridpur Civil Surgeon Mahmudul Hasan said patients with both measles and dengue were continuing to arrive at hospitals every day. He said the health authorities remained alert and were working to ensure that affected patients received appropriate medical care.

The latest figures show that health facilities in Faridpur are managing patients with two different infectious diseases at the same time. While the number of new cases and deaths can vary from day to day, the cumulative figures through September indicate that both dengue and suspected measles remain significant concerns for the district’s public health services.
