A fresh interpretation of the celebrated patriotic song Prothom Bangladesh is scheduled for release on 26 March, aligning with Bangladesh’s Independence Day celebrations. This new initiative seeks to reconnect younger generations with a song that has long stood as a powerful emblem of national identity and emotional unity.
Originally performed by the revered Shahnaz Rahmatullah, the song achieved widespread recognition shortly after its debut in the late 1970s. Its poignant lyrics—written by Moniruzzaman Monir and set to music by Alauddin Ali—first reached audiences through Bangladesh Television’s Bornali, a programme produced by Nawazish Ali Khan. Over time, it became deeply ingrained in the cultural consciousness, often regarded as one of the country’s most cherished patriotic songs.
The forthcoming version introduces a contemporary musical arrangement under the direction of Fuad Al Muqtadir, whose work is widely recognised for fusing modern soundscapes with traditional Bangladeshi elements. The production is led by executive producer Tajwar Awwal, supported by production partners Adnan Karim and Ashiq Zaman.
A notable feature of this rendition is its collaborative vocal ensemble. Among the participating artists are Shayan Chowdhury Arnob, Alif Alauddin, Sinthi Saha, Animesh Roy, Kazi Faisal Ahmed, and Shubho. Their combined effort reflects a deliberate attempt to blend established musical sensibilities with emerging voices, thereby broadening the song’s appeal.
The project also inaugurates a new music and creative production platform, Firewax. According to its creators, selecting Prothom Bangladesh as the platform’s first release underscores the song’s enduring message of patriotism, solidarity, and resilience. The aim is not to alter its essence, but to reinterpret it in a manner that resonates with contemporary listeners while preserving its emotional authenticity.
Visually, the music video adopts a live performance format, emphasising real-time vocal delivery and instrumental interplay. This stylistic choice enhances the sense of immediacy and artistic sincerity. A central thematic element of the video is the symbolic transition between generations: seasoned performers gradually give way to younger artists, illustrating the continuity and evolution of Bangladesh’s cultural legacy.
