In Singra upazila of Natore, police have arrested the wife and son of a fish trader after the recovery of his throat-slit body from their residence. The deceased, identified as Rafiqur Islam (45), was found dead in the early hours of Monday. His wife, Shiuli Begum (35), and son, Saifuddin Siddique alias Royal (23), have been taken into custody in connection with the killing.
According to police, the body was recovered from inside the family home. Following the discovery, both suspects were immediately detained and questioned at the scene. Initially, Shiuli Begum told investigators that she had woken up for prayers and found her husband’s body in a neighbouring room. She further stated that she had served him dinner and massaged his head with oil the previous night.
However, during continued interrogation, the situation changed. Police said that the son first and later the mother admitted to their involvement in the killing of Rafiqur Islam. They reportedly confessed to jointly carrying out the act and disposing of evidence in a nearby pond.
Acting on their statements, law enforcement officers recovered a blood-stained machete and clothes from a pond adjacent to the house. These items were seized as material evidence.
The body of Rafiqur Islam was sent to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. In connection with the incident, the victim’s brother, Faruk Hossain, filed a murder case against Shiuli Begum and Saifuddin Siddique. Both accused have been shown as arrested in the case, and preparations are underway to produce them before the court.
Police further stated that the initial account provided by the accused was inconsistent with the evidence gathered at the scene. Subsequent interrogation led to their confession and the recovery of key physical evidence linked to the crime.
