Police Rescue Abducted College Student From Kuakata Hotel

Authorities have successfully rescued a 17-year-old college student from an upscale residential hotel in Kuakata, Patuakhali, following her abduction from Char Fasson Upazila in Bhola. During a coordinated raid conducted at midnight on Thursday, 7 May 2026, law enforcement officials apprehended two accomplices suspected of involvement in the kidnapping. The primary suspect, who allegedly orchestrated the abduction after the victim rejected his romantic advances, remains at large.

Background of the Incident and Legal Filings

The victim’s mother initiated legal proceedings on Wednesday evening, 6 May 2026, by filing a formal complaint under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Char Fasson Police Station. The case names four individuals as defendants. The primary accused has been identified as 22-year-old Md Jabed, a resident of the Dularhat area.

The remaining defendants include:

  • Md Salauddin Member: Jabed’s father, cited as the second accused.

  • Hasnain (21): A resident of Abdullahpur Union and an associate of the primary suspect.

  • Mehedi Hasan (26): Also a resident of Abdullahpur Union and an associate.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) and statements from the victim’s family, the parties involved are neighbours. The primary suspect, Jabed, had reportedly been harassing the student for a significant period, persistently offering romantic proposals which the victim declined. When the victim informed her family of the harassment, they confronted Jabed’s parents. This intervention allegedly provoked the suspect, leading to the planning of the abduction.

Sequence of the Abduction and Transit

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, 6 May. The victim was en route to a neighbouring locality to attend a birthday celebration for a friend. As she reached the Dularhat market intersection, she was intercepted by Jabed, Hasnain, and Mehedi Hasan. Witnesses and police reports suggest the suspects used physical force to compel the student into a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw.

The kidnappers initially transported the victim to the Veduria Ferry Terminal in Bhola Sadar. To evade detection and expedite their flight, they crossed the river via speedboat to reach Barisal. Upon arrival in Barisal, the suspects chartered a private vehicle to travel to the coastal town of Kuakata, where they secured accommodation at a residential establishment named Hotel Rupantar.

Police Intervention and Rescue Operation

Following the registration of the kidnapping case, the Char Fasson Police, led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Siddiqur Rahman, utilised information technology and mobile tracking to monitor the suspects’ movements. Recognising that the group had entered the jurisdiction of the Mahipur Police Station, a joint operation was organised.

During the late-night raid on 7 May, police breached the hotel room and recovered the college student. While officers successfully apprehended the third and fourth accused—Hasnain and Mehedi Hasan—the primary suspect, Jabed, managed to evade capture and fled the scene.

The victim’s mother stated to the media that the abduction was a premeditated act supported by Jabed’s friends and allegedly instigated by his father. She expressed her gratitude for her daughter’s safe recovery and called for exemplary punishment for all involved in the crime.

Official Statements and Ongoing Investigation

On Friday night, 8 May, SI Md Siddiqur Rahman confirmed that the victim and the two arrested suspects were being transported back to Char Fasson. “Preliminary investigations indicate that Jabed kidnapped the young woman after his romantic overtures were unsuccessful. He reportedly intended to force her into marriage while holding her captive at the hotel,” SI Rahman noted.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Char Fasson Police, Md Mahamud Al Farid Bhuiyan, confirmed that the two detained accomplices would be presented before the court following the completion of initial interrogation. He further emphasised that police raids are continuing across various locations to apprehend the fugitive, Md Jabed, and his father. The victim is expected to undergo a medical examination and provide a formal statement as part of the judicial process.
