Three Arrested in Cannabis Smuggling Case

Three young men have been arrested by the Department of Narcotics Contro (DNC) while allegedly transporting a large consignment of cannabis by motorcycle from Kurigram to Bogura.

The arrests were made on Saturday (9 May) night during an operation conducted in the Moraiya Sardar Para area under Bhatora Union in Nandigram upazila of Bogura. Acting on a tip-off, DNC officials intercepted the suspects at around 9 pm and recovered 5 kilograms of cannabis along with a motorcycle used for transportation and two mobile phones.

The arrested individuals are Md. Sabuj Ahmed (21) from Lalmonirhat, Md. Yasin Arafat (20) from Phulbari upazila in Kurigram, and Md. Naim Hasan (20) from Kurigram.

According to the DNC, intelligence information indicated that a significant cannabis consignment was being transported from the Kurigram border region to Nandigram using a motorcycle. Following this information, a team from the Bogura district office of the DNC took position at a house in Moraiya Sardar Para village. When the three suspects arrived at the location, they were stopped and searched, leading to the recovery of the narcotics and their subsequent arrest.

Officials further stated that Sabuj Ahmed had been residing in a rented house in the area, though the full circumstances of his involvement remain under investigation.

Deputy Director of the Bogura DNC office, Zillur Rahman, confirmed that a red and black motorcycle used in the smuggling operation was also seized during the raid. He added that a case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act at Nandigram Police Station.

He further stated that investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the smuggling network involved in the operation. Authorities also reiterated that enforcement actions against drug trafficking will continue as part of routine anti-narcotics operations in the region.
