The incident reportedly occurred at approximately 15:00 on Sunday while the child was playing in the vicinity of her residence. According to police reports and local accounts, the suspect, Shakul Sangma, led the child to a nearby forested area. It is alleged that the suspect then committed the assault after threatening the victim with death to ensure her silence.
The crime was interrupted when Bakhtar Mia, a local village watchman (Chowkidar), and several other residents happened upon the scene. Upon being discovered, the suspect fled the immediate area to evade capture. The local residents subsequently rescued the child and escorted her back to her family home.
