Youth Assault Video Sparks Outrage

A disturbing incident from the Kazla area of Rajshahi city has gone viral on social media after footage emerged showing a man being tied to a tree and subjected to a brutal public assault.

The victim has been identified as Tushar (35), son of Nazrul from the Kazla area under Motihar Police Station in Rajshahi. According to local sources, he was allegedly accused of stealing window glass (Thai glass) from a residential property. Following the allegation, he was detained by a group of individuals and later tied to a tree, where he was violently assaulted in public view.

The widely circulated video, recorded on Sunday (10 May), shows several young men repeatedly striking Tushar while he remains bound to the tree. The assailants are seen using bamboo sticks and thick wooden rods, striking various parts of his body. At one point, a bamboo stick breaks, after which another is brought and the assault continues without interruption.

In the footage, Tushar is heard pleading for mercy in visible distress, crying out repeatedly: “Mother… please stop… brother, don’t hit me anymore… Hridoy bhai, let me go… I will not do it again…” Despite his repeated pleas, the beating continues and intensifies over time. The scene has triggered widespread condemnation after the video spread across social media platforms.

Local witnesses reportedly stated that the incident was recorded by a young man identified as Hridoy, who was seen filming the assault rather than intervening. Residents also claimed that no bystanders stepped forward to stop the attack during the incident.

Law enforcement sources, including members of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence unit, have identified some of the alleged perpetrators as Ashik, Mahin, and Manik, while Hridoy is believed to have recorded the video. Authorities have stated that an investigation is underway to verify the identities of those involved.
