A devastating road traffic collision in southern Bangladesh has claimed the lives of two motorcyclists in the early hours of Monday morning in Sharsha Upazila.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on the Navaron–Satkhira Highway near the Gilapol area, when a motorcycle carrying two men was struck head-on by a speeding truck travelling in the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle was completely mangled, killing both riders instantly.

Victims identified
Police confirmed the deceased as Shahin Hossain (35), son of Siddiqur Rahman from Ulasikhali Para village in Sharsha, and Tofozzel Hossain (45), son of Atiar Rahman Gaine from the same upazila.
According to preliminary information, Shahin had collected fresh green chillies from his farmland early in the morning and was travelling with Tofozzel, who was riding the motorcycle, towards Navaron market to sell the produce. Their routine journey turned fatal within minutes after they reached the Gilapol stretch of the highway.
Accident details and response
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, believed to have been heading towards Satkhira at high speed, lost control while approaching the bend and collided directly with the oncoming motorcycle. Following the crash, the truck driver and assistant abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, leaving behind the damaged truck.
Police from Sharsha Station arrived shortly after receiving the report. Officers recovered the bodies from the crash site and transported them for legal procedures. The truck involved in the accident has been seized, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Officer-in-Charge Maruf Hossain stated that an investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the collision, including whether speeding or reckless driving was a contributing factor.
