Land Dispute Turns Fatal

A long-standing family land dispute in the Kishoreganj district of Bangladesh has ended in tragedy after a man was allegedly hacked to death by his paternal uncle, according to police and local sources.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in the Purbachar Paratola area of Lohajuri Union under Katiadi Upazila. The deceased, Anwar Hossain, aged 35, was the son of Safi Uddin of the same village. The accused, Morm Ali, is reported to be his uncle.

Local residents stated that tensions between the two relatives had persisted for years over ownership and control of ancestral land. Despite multiple attempts at mediation through informal village arbitration, the dispute remained unresolved and gradually intensified over time.

According to witnesses, the conflict escalated again on Friday over a relatively minor issue linked to the ongoing disagreement. Later in the afternoon, Anwar Hossain was discovered lying in a severely injured and blood-soaked condition on the staircase of a local secondary school. Residents said that the accused uncle allegedly prevented people from approaching the victim and delayed assistance by issuing threats.

Emergency response came too late, and police later recovered the body from the scene in the evening. Officers confirmed visible injuries consistent with sharp weapon attacks. The body was subsequently sent to Kishoreganj District Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Family members of the deceased have accused Morm Ali and his associates of carrying out a premeditated attack. The victim’s mother, Shirin Akter, claimed that the accused entered their home while the family was away, assaulted her son with sharp weapons, and later confined him before leaving him at the school premises where he died.

The victim’s sister, Salma Akter, also alleged that the attack was deliberate and carried out with intent to cause prolonged suffering. She demanded immediate arrest of those responsible and justice through legal proceedings.

Police officials stated that the accused individuals fled the scene following the incident. Investigators are actively working to identify and apprehend those involved.

A case has been initiated and further legal procedures are underway.
