Fugitive Arrested Over Child Rape and Murder in Chattogram

A nineteen-year-old man, identified as the prime suspect in the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Chattogram, has been arrested by the police after evading capture for nearly three months. The suspect, Md. Faisal, was apprehended on Wednesday night in the Tangkapara area of Nilakshi Union, under the Raipura Police Station in the Narsingdi District.

Following his arrest, the suspect was presented before a court, where he subsequently delivered a confessional statement detailing his involvement in the crime.

Background and Discovery of the Incident

The victim, an 11-year-old girl, was reported missing on 24 March. Two days later, on 26 March, local residents detected a strong odor emanating from a cotton warehouse situated adjacent to the child’s residence. Upon investigating the source of the smell, residents discovered the victim’s body hidden inside the facility.

Law enforcement officials later confirmed that the child had been sexually assaulted before being murdered, with her body subsequently abandoned inside the warehouse.

Investigative Findings and Evidence

The breakthrough in identifying the suspect came from Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage recovered from an adjacent building. The video evidence showed Md. Faisal entering the cotton warehouse accompanied by the young girl. Further footage captured Faisal exiting the premises alone a short time later.

Following the discovery of the body and the verification of the footage, the victim’s mother filed a formal case at the Hathazari Police Station on 26 March, explicitly naming Faisal as the accused.

According to police records and local enquiries, the victim’s family comes from a vulnerable socioeconomic background; her father is disabled, and her mother works as a laborer in a local factory. The accused, a day laborer originally from Barishal, resided in the same residential colony as the victim’s family prior to the incident.
