Police Custody Extended For Narayanganj Politician’s Son

On the afternoon of Sunday, 21 June 2026, law enforcement authorities enacted a coordinated operational plan resulting in the detention of Khairul Islam Sajib. The individual holds a prominent political position as the senior joint convener of the Narayanganj district unit of the Jubo Dal, which serves as the official youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Furthermore, the detainee is identified as the eldest son of Azharul Islam Mannan, an active Member of Parliament representing the Narayanganj-3 constituency, an administrative area encompassing the Sonargaon and Siddhirganj localities. The police action was initiated following a succession of formal complaints that detailed allegations of widespread financial extortion and systemic behavioural misconduct attributed directly to the youth front leader.

The targeted apprehension was carried out through a joint law enforcement initiative combining the operational resources of the Narayanganj District Police and the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Investigating units tracked the suspect to his private residence located within the Bashundhara Residential Area, an urban neighbourhood situated under the territorial jurisdiction of the Bhatara area in the capital city of Dhaka. Following his initial arrest at the residential property, specialized transport units moved Sajib across district boundaries to the regional headquarters of the Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police. The transit detail arrived at the provincial police facility at approximately 17:00 Bangladesh Standard Time to initiate official processing.

The formal verification of the suspect’s operational status was provided by the Additional Superintendent of Police responsible for crime in the Narayanganj district, Tarek Al Mehedi. The senior administrative officer confirmed that the regional department had accumulated multiple separate allegations of extortion lodged against Sajib by several independent complainants. Because of the high-profile nature of the suspect and the multi-jurisdictional dimensions of the criminal complaints, the Narayanganj police service subjected the detainee to preliminary local questioning before executing administrative directives to transfer his custody back to the metropolitan authorities.

Following an interrogation session lasting more than an hour at the Narayanganj police superintendent’s facility, higher administrative instructions mandated that Sajib be escorted back to the capital city. At approximately 19:00 BST, transport units successfully transferred the suspect to the central Detective Branch headquarters of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, located on Mintoo Road. Additional Commissioner and Detective Branch Chief Shafiqul Islam verified that the politician’s son was safely held at the metropolitan facility for further detailed interrogation. The detective chief noted that a comprehensive judicial review of the active complaints would determine whether the compiled evidence warranted the filing of formal criminal charges, emphasizing that the suspect would be released in accordance with standard legal procedures if the claims proved completely unsubstantiated.

In response to the actions taken by the law enforcement administration, the Member of Parliament for Narayanganj-3, Azharul Islam Mannan, issued a formal statement to media outlets concerning the detention of his eldest son. The legislator maintained a neutral position regarding the investigation, stating that state law enforcement administrations possess full legal authority to take any individual into custody for the purpose of executing necessary official interrogation. MP Mannan explicitly clarified that he had personally facilitated the transition, ensuring that his son was handed over directly to the processing administrative authorities to assist with their ongoing inquiries.

Concurrently, the central leadership of the Jubo Dal convened an emergency administrative review following the public disclosure of the criminal complaints against their member. A formal press release distributed by the organisation’s president, Abdul Monayem Munna, and general secretary, Mohammad Nurul Islam Nayon, announced the immediate and permanent expulsion of Sajib from his organizational rank. The political body stated that the decision was implemented due to verified allegations of his direct involvement in financial irregularities and behavioural misconduct. The directive further instructed all organizational tiers to sever official ties with the former leader, explicitly noting that the political party would assume no structural responsibility for any unlawful actions committed by the individual.
