HSC Candidate Dies in Tragic Motorcycle Crash

A Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination candidate was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident in Rangpur’s Gangachara Upazila on Sunday morning, cutting short the life of a promising young student just as he was sitting his public examinations.

The deceased was identified as Prantik Goswami Rangan, 17, the only son of Pradip Chandra Goswami of Ramnagorpara village under Betgari Union in Gangachara Upazila. He was a student of Dhanatala Reyazuddin School and College and had been participating in the ongoing HSC examinations.

According to family members and local residents, Rangan left his home early on Sunday morning for Paglapir Bazar. At around 8:00 a.m., while travelling along the Betgari–Paglapir road, he reached the Shahpara intersection, where he reportedly lost control of his motorcycle. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a roadside tree with considerable force.

The impact proved fatal, and Rangan died at the scene before any medical assistance could be provided. The sudden accident has left his family, classmates and local community devastated, particularly as he had been preparing for one of the most significant academic milestones of his life.

Residents who gathered at the scene described the incident as deeply distressing. The death of the teenager has cast a shadow over his village and educational institution, where teachers and fellow students had expected him to complete his examinations and pursue higher education.

Police from Gangachara Model Police Station visited the accident site shortly after receiving information about the incident. Officers carried out a preliminary inspection and documented the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Officer-in-Charge Abdus Sabur confirmed that police had responded to reports of the fatal motorcycle accident involving an HSC examinee. He said an unnatural death case had been registered at the police station in accordance with legal procedures.

Road traffic accidents involving motorcycles remain a recurring concern in many parts of Bangladesh, particularly on regional roads where excessive speed, loss of vehicle control and roadside obstacles frequently contribute to fatal collisions. Although the exact cause of Sunday’s crash has not yet been officially determined, the incident serves as another reminder of the devastating consequences that can result from even a momentary loss of control on the road.

The untimely death of Prantik Goswami Rangan has brought an abrupt end to the aspirations of a young student whose future had only just begun to unfold, leaving behind grieving parents, relatives and friends mourning an irreplaceable loss.
