ICC Recognises Tamim as Bangladesh Board Representative

ICC Recognises Tamim as Bangladesh Board Representative

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has formally recognised the current leadership of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirming BCB President Tamim as Bangladesh’s official representative on the ICC Board. The decision brings an end to uncertainty surrounding the country’s representation in world cricket’s governing body following the recent change in the BCB’s administration.

The recognition was announced in an ICC media release issued on Wednesday after the conclusion of the organisation’s Annual General Meeting in Scotland. Tamim attended the gathering, marking his first appearance at an ICC meeting since assuming the presidency of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

In the section of the statement relating to ICC membership matters, the governing body confirmed its decision regarding Bangladesh, stating that the ICC Board had recognised the appointment of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s newly elected president as the Full Member Director representing the board.

Tamim’s elevation to the ICC Board follows his election as a BCB director on 7 June, when he secured the highest number of votes in the board election. Later that day, he was elected president unopposed by fellow directors, signalling broad support for his leadership within the organisation.

Despite assuming the presidency in June, Tamim could not immediately take his place on the ICC Board because the international governing body had yet to complete the formal recognition process. During that interim period, BCB Chief Executive Nizam Uddin Chowdhury continued to represent Bangladesh at ICC Board meetings in his capacity as the board’s recognised representative.

The latest decision officially transfers that responsibility to Tamim, enabling him to participate fully in ICC Board deliberations and represent Bangladesh in discussions concerning the governance, development and future direction of international cricket. The recognition also reinforces the legitimacy of the current BCB administration within the global cricket community.

The ICC’s statement also addressed developments in Sri Lanka. The governing body reiterated the importance of holding cricket board elections there as soon as possible. Until a new administration is elected in accordance with the required governance framework, Sri Lanka will remain unable to send a representative to ICC Board meetings.

The ICC’s recognition of Bangladesh’s newly elected leadership is expected to ensure uninterrupted representation in international cricket governance and allow the BCB to engage directly in key policy decisions affecting the sport worldwide.
