Iran Executes Man Accused of US, Israeli Espionage

Iran has executed a man accused of carrying out espionage and operational activities in the interests of the United States and Israel, according to a report by the Iranian state-affiliated Fars News Agency.

The man, identified as Mehdi Khanki, was sentenced to death following judicial proceedings, with Iranian authorities alleging that he had links to what they described as an “anti-revolutionary terrorist organisation”. Authorities also accused him of conducting various operational activities on behalf of US and Israeli interests.

According to the report, Iranian security forces arrested Khanki during an operation in the city of Karaj. Iranian authorities claimed that a search of his home uncovered a substantial quantity of weapons and equipment allegedly connected to explosive activities.

The items reportedly seized included a pistol and ammunition, a remote control device associated with explosives, handmade grenades, shoulder-fired explosive tubes and powerful bombs. Iranian authorities presented the alleged discovery of these materials as significant evidence in the case.

The authorities said judicial proceedings were completed on the basis of the charges brought against Khanki, after which a court imposed the death sentence.
