Policeman Discovers Son Among Road Crash Victims

A routine police response turned into an unimaginable personal tragedy in Kishoreganj when a police constable, dispatched to recover the body of a child killed in a road accident, discovered that the victim was his own ten-year-old son.

The heartbreaking incident occurred at around 10:20 a.m. on Friday on the road in front of Abdul Wahed Janata Government Primary School in the Gaital area of Kishoreganj town. The victim, identified as Tuhin, was a fourth-grade pupil at the school.

According to police and local residents, the young boy was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a truck. The impact proved fatal, and he died at the scene before medical assistance could be provided.

Following the accident, Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station dispatched officers to the location as part of their standard emergency response. Among them was Constable Samsul, who was carrying out his official duties without knowing that the deceased child he had been sent to recover was his own son.

On arriving at the scene, the constable was left devastated after recognising the victim. The discovery reduced him to tears, while fellow officers and local residents tried to console him. Witnesses described the moment as deeply distressing, with many present struggling to hold back their emotions as they watched a father confront the tragic loss of his child while still on duty.

Tuhin’s father, Constable Samsul, serves with Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station. Although the family currently lives in Kishoreganj due to his posting, their ancestral home is in the neighbouring district of Netrokona.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiyan of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station said the incident had deeply affected everyone in the force. He described Constable Samsul as a dedicated and responsible officer who responded to the accident in the line of duty, only to learn upon reaching the scene that the victim was his own son.

The officer added that Tuhin’s body had been sent to the morgue at Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital for the necessary legal procedures. Police have seized the truck involved in the collision, but the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Efforts are currently under way to locate and arrest the suspect.

Legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the incident.

The tragedy has once again drawn attention to the dangers faced by schoolchildren on busy roads, particularly during peak school hours. Accidents involving pedestrians, especially children crossing roads near educational institutions, remain a persistent concern. Authorities routinely urge motorists to exercise greater caution in school zones and comply with traffic regulations designed to protect young pedestrians.

For the family, however, those wider concerns offer little comfort. What began as an ordinary working day for a police officer ended in an unimaginable personal loss, leaving colleagues, local residents and the wider community mourning the death of a young schoolboy under such devastating circumstances.
