Hanging Body Found at Sheikh Hasina’s Abandoned Dhanmondi Residence

Police have recovered the hanging body of a 20-year-old man from the abandoned premises of Sudha Sadan on Road No. 5 in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

The deceased was identified as Md Shakil, the son of Sekandar Ali Matubbar and Asma Begum, residents of the Mohammadpur area of the capital.

The body was recovered at around 11am on Saturday, 25 July. Following the completion of the necessary legal procedures, it was sent to the morgue at Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 3.30pm for a post-mortem examination.

According to Mohammad Waduzzaman, a sub-inspector at Dhanmondi Police Station, local residents spotted the young man hanging by the neck inside the abandoned building at the Sudha Sadan premises and informed the police. Officers subsequently went to the scene and recovered the body.

The victim’s identity was not immediately known after the body was found. Police later contacted the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) crime scene team to assist with the identification process.

Members of the CID crime scene team collected fingerprints from the deceased. The fingerprints were then checked with the help of technological systems, enabling investigators to establish the man’s identity.

Police said the exact circumstances surrounding Shakil’s death have yet to be established. The recovery of a body in a hanging position does not, by itself, confirm the precise cause or circumstances of death, and investigators are awaiting the findings of the post-mortem examination.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for forensic examination as part of the standard legal process. The post-mortem report is expected to provide further information that may help determine the cause of death.

Authorities have not yet disclosed why Shakil was at the abandoned premises or what circumstances led to his death. These matters may form part of the ongoing investigation, depending on the evidence gathered by police.

The case remains under investigation, and the necessary legal procedures are continuing. Police said the cause of death would be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received and the relevant investigative processes are completed.
