Mymensingh Police Solve Beheading Case as Four Suspects Remanded

Police in Mymensingh have unravelled the murder of 25-year-old Sohel Sarkar, whose decapitated and partially decomposed remains were recovered six days after his sudden disappearance. Law enforcement authorities confirmed the arrest of four men, including the primary mastermind, following a series of coordinated raids across the district.

On Sunday afternoon, the suspects were presented before a local court, which ordered them to be remanded in judicial custody, according to an official statement issued by the district police.

Marital Jealousy Triggers Cold-Blooded Plot

The victim, Sohel Sarkar, vanished on the evening of 16th July after leaving his family home at around 8:30 pm. When initial searches yielded no results, his relatives lodged a general diary with Kotwali Model Police Station.

The search ended tragically on the afternoon of 22nd July, when residents near the Ambikaganj College grounds spotted a severed, partially decomposed human head in a nearby orchard and alerted law enforcement.

Officers arriving at the scene subsequently exhumed a headless, shallow-buried torso nearby. Sohel’s family members identified the victim using the remnants of his clothing.

Mohammad Shibirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, disclosed that the murder was driven by extra-marital suspicion. The main accused, 30-year-old Md. Selim Mia, suspected that Sohel was involved in a relationship with his second wife. Selim, who is also the brother-in-law of Sohel’s sister, claimed during interrogation that Sohel had been living secretly with his second wife in Dhaka for three months.

Driven by revenge, Selim devised a scheme to lure Sohel back to Mymensingh from the capital. Once Sohel returned, Selim summoned him from his residence with the help of his accomplices, carried out the pre-planned attack, severed his head, and buried the remains separately to conceal evidence.

Coordinated Raids Lead to Key Arrests and Recovery

Following a formal murder and evidence-tampering case filed on Saturday by the victim’s father, Nurul Islam, against unidentified individuals, investigators deployed information technology and intelligence tracking to identify the culprits.

Specialist police units executed joint operations across Bhaluka, Mymensingh Sadar, and Mirkandapara, apprehending all four suspects on Saturday night:

• Md. Selim Mia (30): Resident of Mirkandapara, Sadar sub-district; primary suspect and alleged mastermind behind the murder.

• Abdul Quadir alias Al Amin (25): Direct participant in the attack and concealment of the corpse.

• Md. Selim alias Napit Selim (32): Accomplice involved in luring and assaulting the victim.

• Lal Chan alias Lalu (26): Co-conspirator who assisted in burying the body parts and destroying evidence.

Acting on information extracted during questioning, officers recovered crucial physical evidence from hidden sites, including a sharp machete (da), a spade used to dig the shallow grave, bloodstained clothing, and the victim’s sandals. Police confirmed that all four detainees played direct or indirect roles in the killing, bringing a swift resolution to a case that had deeply unsettled the local community.
