Celebrated actress Jaya Ahsan, a prominent figure across both Bangladesh and West Bengal, has offered candid insights into her professional partnerships, personal friendships, and the dynamics of on-screen romance. Speaking during a media interaction with Anandabazar, she reflected on the subtle challenge of performing romantic scenes with close real-life friends, highlighting her frequent co-star Abir Chatterjee.
The actress is currently riding high on the success of her latest Bengali release, Aro Ardhangini, directed by Kaushik Ganguly, which continues its strong run in Kolkata cinemas to warm critical acclaim. Whilst participating in a quick-fire game during promotional interviews, Jaya drew a slip bearing Abir Chatterjee’s name. After a brief pause, she spoke warmly of their long-standing artistic and personal association.
Characterising Abir as a cherished friend and preferred co-star, Jaya underscored the deep comfort they share on set. The pair have previously delivered memorable performances in acclaimed films such as Bishorjan, Bijoya, and Putul Nacher Itikatha. Their natural rapport has won over audiences across the region, developed through years of shared work in Tollywood and mutual professional respect.
However, Jaya admitted that such intense familiarity can occasionally complicate romantic portrayal. She explained that their platonic closeness makes it surprisingly difficult to project genuine romantic tension on camera, as their natural dynamic leans heavily toward friendship. She further praised Abir’s balanced nature, noting his ability to navigate his career and personal life without controversy or drama.
Beyond her West Bengal projects, the actress shared affectionate thoughts on acclaimed Bangladeshi actors Mosharraf Karim and Chanchal Chowdhury. She praised Mosharraf as a true magician of acting whose performances she admires as a fan, despite having worked alongside him only a handful of times. Turning to Chanchal Chowdhury, she spoke fondly of their close friendship, lightheartedly teasing his relaxed attitude towards physical fitness while revealing her ongoing efforts to coax him into joining her at the gym.
When touched upon the topic of romance and non-traditional relationships, Jaya maintained a straightforward outlook. Dismissing conventional societal labels surrounding love, she remarked that true affection and emotional honesty remain the sole defining elements of any relationship.
