ASI Found Dead in Narayanganj Rented Flat

Police have recovered the hanging body of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from a rented flat in Narayanganj’s Fatullah area, with authorities launching an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

The deceased was identified as Abu Hanif, an Assistant Sub-Inspector serving at the Narayanganj District Police Lines. His body was recovered on Tuesday night, 28 July, from a fifth-floor flat in a six-storey residential building owned by Kamal Haji near the Isdair Temple in Fatullah. Following the recovery, the body was sent to the morgue of Narayanganj General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

According to police, officers were alerted to the incident at around 9:00 p.m. After arriving at the residence, they found one of the rooms locked from the inside. The door was forced open, and Abu Hanif was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan. The body was subsequently recovered in the presence of the authorities before being transferred for medico-legal examination.

Abu Hanif was a resident of Ichapur village under Kalihati Upazila in Tangail District. He had been serving with the Narayanganj District Police Lines and was reportedly on five days’ leave due to illness at the time of the incident.

Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahbub Alam said the officer had been living in the rented flat with his speech-impaired wife. He confirmed that the body had been sent for post-mortem examination and that investigators were working to establish the exact cause and circumstances of the death.

Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Mijaur Rahman Munshi visited the scene shortly after receiving information about the incident. Senior officers inspected the flat as part of the initial investigation and instructed the investigating team to complete all necessary legal procedures.

Police said that, based on the initial findings, the room where the incident occurred had been locked from the inside. However, investigators have not reached any final conclusions and are examining all available evidence before determining the cause of death. Statements from relevant individuals, along with findings from the post-mortem examination, are expected to play an important role in the investigation.

Authorities emphasised that the inquiry remains ongoing and that no definitive conclusion will be drawn until the forensic examination and all investigative procedures have been completed. Police have urged against speculation while the investigation continues, stating that further information will be released if warranted by the findings.
