Jubodal Activist Shot Dead at Brick Kiln in Khulna

A 32-year-old Jubodal activist named Fakhrul Sheikh was shot and killed by unidentified armed assailants at a brick kiln in Rupsha, Khulna. The targeted shooting took place late at night, at approximately 12:55 am, at the Rupsha Bricks kiln located in the Sreerampur area.
The victim, Fakhrul, was a resident of Noihati village within the upazila, the son of Momin Uddin, and the younger brother of local Jubodal leader Farhad Hossain. According to family members and local accounts, Fakhrul was a former student leader of Rupsha College and actively involved with political activities alongside managing business operations.
Local sources revealed that Fakhrul’s brothers, Farhad and Sharifuzzaman, jointly operate the Rupsha Bricks kiln. On the fateful night, Fakhrul had visited the brick kiln to oversee daily operations and manage a fish-cultivation project situated in the kiln’s canal, a routine he performed regularly. Earlier that same afternoon, a verbal altercation had reportedly broken out between Fakhrul and Taiyab, the night guard of the kiln. Following the dispute, the night guard remained absent from his scheduled night shift.
Amidst these circumstances, while Fakhrul was present near the office room of the kiln, a group of armed attackers ambushed him. Gunshots rang out, striking him fatally; one bullet hit him in the neck, while another entered through the right side of his jaw and penetrated his head. Family members stated they remain uncertain about the exact identities of the perpetrators or the precise motive behind the targeted execution.
The alarm was raised when a friend of Fakhrul contacted Farhad around 12:30 am, urgently telling him that individuals were assaulting his brother and asking him to rush to the scene. Upon receiving the frantic call, Farhad and his other brothers hurried to the brick kiln, where they discovered Fakhrul lying motionless near the office. They immediately rushed the critically wounded man to Rupsha Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty medical officer pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Police from Rupsha Police Station swiftly inspected the crime scene during the night upon receiving information of the murder. Following an initial inquest report, authorities transferred the body to Khulna Medical College Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination.
A formal murder case has been lodged at the local police station by the victim’s brother, Farhad, naming no immediate suspects as investigations continue. Farhad recounted that Fakhrul had left his home earlier that night to purchase medicine for his daughter, briefly meeting him on the road and mentioning he would visit the kiln before heading home.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Razzaq Mir of Rupsha Police Station stated that preliminary examination of the body revealed two bullet wounds. Law enforcement agencies have launched coordinated raids and manhunts across the area to track down and apprehend those involved in the killing as the investigation progresses.
