Local residents in Dhulipara, an area near EPZ Road in Comilla, detained and questioned Maulana Zakir Hossain, a former general secretary of the Comilla South District unit of the Olama Dal, after he allegedly entered a rented flat with a woman on Sunday night.
The incident reportedly took place at around 10pm on 30 August. A video purportedly showing the incident has since circulated on social media, prompting discussion among residents in the area.
According to local residents, Hossain arrived at his rented accommodation accompanied by a woman. They said no members of his family were present at the property at the time. The circumstances reportedly appeared suspicious to some residents, who gathered at the location and questioned him about the woman’s presence and the reason for their visit.
Residents have also alleged that various items they described as being associated with sex work were found in the woman’s possession. However, those claims have not been independently verified. No statement from law enforcement confirming the alleged recovery or its significance was available at the time of reporting.
The video circulating on social media appears to show several residents questioning Hossain about why he had brought the woman to the rented property at night. In the footage, he can reportedly be heard saying that the woman had come to see him for personal reasons.
The circumstances surrounding the woman’s visit remain unclear. The available video does not, by itself, establish the nature of their relationship or confirm the allegations made by local residents. Such claims would require verification by the relevant authorities before any definitive conclusion can be drawn.
Residents said that Hossain left the area following the incident and that they were subsequently unaware of his whereabouts. It could not be independently confirmed whether he had been formally detained by law enforcement or whether any case or complaint had been filed in connection with the incident.
When contacted for comment, Hossain declined to provide a detailed response. He said he did not wish to comment on the matter and referred those seeking clarification to the video circulating on social media, asking them to listen to it carefully.
The incident has generated considerable discussion locally, particularly after the video began circulating online. However, several key aspects remain unconfirmed, including the allegations concerning the items reportedly recovered from the woman, the exact circumstances of the visit and whether any legal action has been taken.
As no independent verification or official statement was available regarding the allegations, the claims made by local residents should be treated as allegations rather than established facts. Further clarification from law enforcement or other relevant authorities would be needed to establish what actually occurred and whether the incident resulted in any formal legal proceedings.
