Detectives in Rajshahi have recovered two operational foreign pistols, three empty magazines, and seven rounds of live ammunition from a residential house during a targeted raid. The operation, led by the District Detective Branch (DB) police, resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old woman named Mosammat Rosina Khatun. Meanwhile, her husband, Md Rubel Hossain, managed to evade capture and remains at large.
The raid took place late Saturday night at the couple’s homestead in Alaipur Napitpara village, situated within the Bagha upazila of Rajshahi district. Operating on specific intelligence inputs, a team headed by DB Police Inspector Md Mominul Hasan surrounded and searched the premises. During a thorough sweep of the main bedroom, law enforcement officers located the cache of weaponry concealed directly beneath the bed. Following her arrest, Rosina Khatun was produced before a local court on Sunday.
Preliminary interrogations revealed that the primary suspect, Rubel Hossain, previously served as a union parishad member for approximately six months during the final tenure of the immediate past Awami League administration. Investigators allege that Rubel capitalised on his political position to exert local influence and establish deep ties with regional drug trafficking syndicates. Police records indicate that he faces multiple pending charges, with several criminal cases related to narcotics currently active in various courts.
Authorities suspect that the recovered firearms and ammunition were amassed to execute violent activities and maintain criminal dominance in the locality. Police teams are continuing their extensive search operations across the district to track down the fugitive husband and determine the origin of the smuggled weapons. Legal proceedings regarding the seized arms have been initiated under the relevant firearms legislation, while ongoing inquiries aim to uncover any wider criminal networks operating in the border-adjacent zone.
