Eleven people have been arrested after allegedly arriving at Narail District Court with locally made weapons while attending a court hearing in an assault case.
The arrests were made at around noon on Sunday (20 September), when a team of police from Narail Sadar Police Station conducted an operation at a lawyer’s chamber on the court premises. Police said they recovered 12 locally made weapons, including ramdas, machetes and agricultural knives, from the group.
The arrested individuals were identified as Eskendar Sheikh, 55, Aminur Shikdar, 56, Hafez Sheikh, 25, Tayyebur Rahman, 55, Sekendar Ali, 45, Hasanur Rahman, 55, Riazul Shikdar, 22, Ariful Sheikh, 22, Tarek Sheikh, 32, Zulfikar Molla, 45, and Shariful Molla, 40.
All of them are from Charkandipara village in Kalabaria Union under Naragati Police Station in Narail.
According to police, the group had travelled to the court to attend a hearing in an assault case. They were staying inside a lawyer’s chamber on the court premises when police received confidential information about their presence.
Acting on the information, a team from Narail Sadar Police Station went to the chamber and detained the 11 individuals. During the operation, officers searched them and recovered the weapons, which included ramdas, machetes and knives.
The presence of multiple locally made weapons inside a court complex has prompted police to examine why the group had brought them to the premises. At this stage, police have not disclosed whether the weapons were allegedly intended for use in any particular incident or whether they were connected to the assault case for which the individuals had appeared in court.
Narail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Russell Sarwar confirmed the arrests and said preparations were under way to file a case against the detainees in connection with the recovery of the weapons.
Police are also investigating whether there was any other reason behind bringing the weapons into the court area. The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the purpose of carrying the weapons and their possible connection to the ongoing legal proceedings, are expected to become clearer as the investigation progresses.
The incident has drawn attention to security within the court premises, where people regularly gather for hearings and other legal proceedings. However, the police investigation will be required to establish the exact circumstances and determine whether the recovered weapons were linked to any planned activity or specific dispute.
