Officers from the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) have arrested an alleged drug dealer following a targeted afternoon raid in Manikganj’s Shibaloy upazila.

Acting on targeted intelligence, an operational team spearheaded by Sub-Inspector Morshed Alam conducted a search at approximately 1:15 pm at a residential property in the Jhoriar Bag Chorkandi area. The operation, supervised directly by Humayun Kabir Khondakar, Deputy Director of the DNC’s Manikganj District Office, led to the recovery of one kilogram of cannabis.

The suspect has been identified as 43-year-old Md Halim, son of the late Helal Uddin and Hameda, residing in Jhoriar Bag Chorkandi under Shibaloy Police Station. Officials took him into custody at the scene after discovering the illicit stash within his homestead premises. Law enforcement authorities subsequently formalised a regular criminal case against him under the prevailing narcotics legislation.

Local residents revealed that Halim had long been suspected of operating an illicit drug trade within the community. His residence had reportedly drawn growing concern from neighbours, who alleged that the property served as a hub for local narcotics distribution.

This successful enforcement drive highlights the ongoing efforts by Bangladesh’s narcotics authorities to dismantle grassroots illicit drug networks. Rural and riverine corridors across the Dhaka Division, including regions along the Padma River in Manikganj, remain susceptible to contraband transit routes. Law enforcement agencies have intensified intelligence-led operations across coastal and outlying residential sectors to curb the supply of illegal substances, particularly cannabis and methamphetamine derivatives. DNC officials confirmed that investigative procedures are currently underway, with further inquiries aimed at tracing the broader supply chain linked to the seized contraband.
