Youth Leader Held Over Alleged Assault on Police Constable

A leader of the Jubo Dal has been detained after allegedly assaulting a police constable inside Sitakunda Model Police Station in Chattogram following an argument over motorcycle parking.

The accused has been identified as Md Ismail Hossain, vice-president of the North Chattogram district unit of Jubo Dal. Police detained him shortly after the incident.

The incident occurred at around 9pm on Thursday, 1 October, within the premises of Sitakunda Model Police Station. According to police, the dispute began when Ismail Hossain attempted to park a motorcycle near the station gate.

Police sources said Constable Md Shafik, who was on duty at the time, objected to the motorcycle being parked at the gate. An argument subsequently broke out between the two.

The verbal dispute reportedly escalated, with police alleging that Ismail assaulted Shafik. The constable was injured in the incident and was later taken to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex for medical treatment.

The extent of Shafik’s injuries was not immediately disclosed. Police said the incident took place inside the police station premises, where the constable had been carrying out his official duties.

Sitakunda Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohinul Islam confirmed the incident. He said an argument over parking a vehicle near the station gate led to the assault of Constable Shafik.

According to the officer, Ismail Hossain was detained in connection with the incident and legal action was being taken against him.

The incident has also drawn reactions from local BNP and Jubo Dal activists. They claimed that the confrontation stemmed from a minor verbal disagreement over the parking issue. However, no detailed official statement from the local political leadership was immediately available.

Attempts were made to contact the member secretary of the upazila BNP and several other local leaders for their comments, but they could not be reached.

The allegations against Ismail remain subject to the ongoing legal process. Police have yet to provide further details about the specific legal provisions under which action is being taken or whether a formal case has been filed.

The incident comes amid continuing scrutiny of interactions between political activists and law-enforcement personnel. In this case, police have maintained that the confrontation began with a dispute over vehicle parking and escalated into an alleged physical assault inside the station compound.

Further details regarding the constable’s injuries and the subsequent legal proceedings are expected to emerge as the authorities proceed with the case.
