BPL Auction Pushed Back Due to Franchise Issues

The auction for the twelfth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, originally scheduled for 23 November, has been postponed until 30 November at 3 pm, a Bangladesh Cricket Board statement confirmed. The auction will take place at a five-star hotel in Dhaka.

The delay comes amid concerns over franchise bank guarantees. Each team is required to deposit BDT 10 crore, but one franchise has failed to meet the requirement, even after two deadline extensions. Of the four franchises that have submitted guarantees, two deposited only half the required amount, which the BCB considers secure.

The board is seeking new ownership for the franchise unable to provide a guarantee, potentially appointing an interested party or taking temporary control itself.

For this season, Togi Sports (Bashundhara Group) owns Rangpur Riders, Triangular Services manages Chattogram Royals, Nabil Group runs Rajshahi Warriors, Cricket With Sami controls Sylhet Titans, and Champion Sports (Remark-Harlan) operates Dhaka Capitals.

Auction rules for the 2026 BPL have been finalised, setting a maximum base price of BDT 50 lakh for local ‘A’ category players and USD 35,000 for foreign players. Six categories will apply to local players and five to overseas players.

The tournament is slated to begin in the third week of December.
