64 District SPs Finalised for 13th National Parliamentary Election

The caretaker government has finalised the appointment of 64 Superintendents of Police (SPs) across districts to oversee the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary election. On Monday, the SPs were selected through a lottery held at the Chief Adviser’s residence in Jamuna. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs and police headquarters, their postings will be implemented soon.

The lottery was attended by the acting IGP, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and representatives from the Chief Adviser’s office. Additional Inspector General of Police (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain stated that the appointed SPs will assume their roles upon the issuance of official orders.

Police sources noted that officers who previously served as SPs were excluded, and a new list was prepared from the 25th, 27th, and 28th police cadre batches after verification. From this list, 64 officers were selected via lottery.

Sources from the Ministry of Home Affairs and police headquarters added that to facilitate the transfer and posting of field-level officers ahead of the elections, the Chief Adviser instructed that qualified officers’ lists be handed to the relevant committee. District-based postings were finalised through the lottery. Earlier, the joining of newly appointed SPs in six districts had been temporarily suspended.

In the next phase, the posting of police station officers (OCs) will also follow the lottery system. A senior police official stated that the lottery method is intended to avoid controversy in election-focused policing and ensure the appointment of impartial officers at the field level.
