A Fog-Laced Morning Sets the Tone for a Calm Winter Day in Dhaka

The city of Dhaka stepped into the day under a soft veil of fog, signalling another classic winter morning in the capital. Streets appeared quieter than usual as light to moderate mist hovered over neighbourhoods, blending with the cool air and creating a subdued atmosphere. While the fog added a touch of winter drama, the overall weather outlook suggests that temperatures will remain steady, with no significant changes expected.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department reported that Dhaka’s weather will likely stay dry throughout the morning and into the early afternoon. Although the sky may appear temporarily partly cloudy, the chances of rain remain virtually nonexistent, allowing daily routines to continue uninterrupted.

Forecast data released for the six-hour period starting at 7am on Monday highlights a consistent temperature trend. The daytime warmth is expected to mirror that of previous days, offering a sense of familiarity to residents who have already adapted to the seasonal chill.

During the early hours, fog conditions may persist, especially in areas with higher humidity. As the sun climbs higher, the fog is expected to gradually thin out, giving way to clearer visibility. Meteorologists also anticipate light winds from the north or north-west, travelling at speeds of five to ten kilometres per hour, subtly reinforcing the winter feel.

At 6am, Dhaka recorded a temperature of 17.0 degrees Celsius, paired with humidity levels reaching 89 per cent. This moisture-rich air played a crucial role in the formation of fog. The lowest temperature of the day dipped slightly to 16.9 degrees Celsius, while Sunday’s highest temperature stood at a comfortable 24.1 degrees Celsius.

The city will witness sunset at 5:17pm, continuing the trend of shorter daylight hours, while sunrise is scheduled for 6:38am tomorrow. Importantly, no rainfall was recorded over the past 24 hours, underscoring the dry nature of the current weather system.

Beyond Dhaka, similar conditions are expected across the country. Nationwide forecasts suggest temporarily partly cloudy skies combined with generally dry weather. However, moderate to dense fog may develop in certain areas from midnight through the early morning, potentially affecting long-distance travel and highway visibility.

Meteorologists have also confirmed that daytime temperatures across Bangladesh are expected to remain nearly unchanged. This stable pattern reflects a broader winter trend, marked by cool mornings, mild afternoons, and fog-prone nights.

As winter continues to settle in, Dhaka’s residents can expect more mornings like this—quiet, misty, and calm—offering a gentle reminder that the season has firmly taken hold without bringing any extreme weather surprises.
