American Idol Sets Taylor Swift Tribute Night

The television singing competition American Idol will dedicate an upcoming episode to Taylor Swift, as the show advances into its top seven stage of the current season.

The announcement was made during the Monday, 20 April broadcast. Host Ryan Seacrest confirmed that the remaining contestants will perform songs from Taylor Swift’s catalogue in the following week’s episode, which is themed around her music and career eras.

“Next week, the top seven will officially enter their Taylor Swift era,” Seacrest said during the programme. He added that the performances would include “iconic songs from Taylor’s acclaimed catalog — from her early country roots to her global pop anthems, and all the Grammy-winning songs in between.”

The themed episode is scheduled for Sunday, 27 April and will include guest judge Nikki Glaser, who has previously expressed public support and admiration for Taylor Swift.

Swift’s music has been a recurring feature on American Idol in recent seasons, reflecting its sustained popularity among contestants. The show often incorporates themed nights centred on established artists, allowing performers to interpret well-known songs across different genres and eras.

In season 22, eventual winner Abi Carter performed Swift’s “All Too Well” from the album Red. More recently, contestant Bryant Thomas delivered a performance of “Champagne Problems” from Swift’s 2020 album Evermore.

These results followed a Disney-themed episode in which the nine remaining contestants performed songs from titles including The Lion King and Hannah Montana: The Movie. Guest judge Jennifer Hudson participated in that episode. At the end of the broadcast, Lucas Leon and Kyndal Inskeep were eliminated from the competition.

American Idol continues to air weekly on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. Episodes are made available for streaming on Hulu the following day.
