Bangladesh Cricket Board Election Schedule Formally Announced

The official schedule for the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections has been formally announced. In a press release issued on Saturday, 16 May, the complete timeline and regulatory procedures for the electoral process were detailed. The official document bears the signature of the newly appointed Election Commission lead, Chief Election Commissioner Ahsanul Karim. According to the published schedule, the highly anticipated elections to form the BCB Board of Directors are officially set to take place on 7 June.

Following the initial announcement, the sequential steps of the electoral framework will commence immediately. According to the approved schedule, the preliminary draft of the voter list is set to be officially published on 17 May. Following this publication, the commission has allocated 18 May as the designated date for receiving any formal objections or disputes regarding the names included in the draft voter list. A formal hearing to review and address these filed objections will be conducted on the morning of 19 May. Once the legal hearings are completed and resolved, the definitive final voter list will be officially published on the afternoon of 19 May.

Nomination Procedures and Venue Locations

The initial formalities directly concerning potential candidates will begin shortly after the finalisation of the voter list. The sale of official nomination papers has been scheduled over a two-day period, specifically spanning 20 May and 21 May. Aspiring candidates who wish to contest the upcoming board elections can purchase and collect these nomination documents directly from the BCB headquarters located at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Following the collection phase, the Independent Election Commission has designated 22 May and 23 May as the strict timeframe for candidates to formally submit and lodge their completed nomination papers. After the submission window closes, the documents will undergo a meticulous verification, scrutiny, and withdrawal process, which will eventually lead to the declaration of the official list of candidates. According to the timeline, the submission of formal appeals against any nomination decisions will be accepted on 24 May, specifically between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, followed by the respective appeal hearings scheduled from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on the same day.

Final Candidate List and Category Distributions

The final administrative adjustments before the polling day will take place on 25 May. Candidates who wish to officially withdraw their nominations must do so between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm on this date. Following any withdrawals, the definitive final list of contesting candidates will be publicly released at approximately 2:00 pm on 25 May. Furthermore, 25 May also serves as the final deadline for eligible voters to submit their applications for postal or electronic ballots, with the application window closing strictly at 12:00 midnight.

Once the distribution and collection of these postal and e-ballots are concluded, the actual physical polling for the BCB Directors, alongside the executive positions of President and Vice-President, will be conducted on 7 June. The election commission has confirmed that the counting of votes will happen immediately after polling concludes, and the official results will be declared on the exact same day.

The governing structure of the Bangladesh Cricket Board will see a total of 23 directors elected from three distinct regulatory categories:

  • Category 1 (Districts and Divisions): This category represents regional cricket bodies, from which 10 directors will be elected to the board.

  • Category 2 (Dhaka Clubs): This category represents the traditional club cricket structure, which will see 12 directors elected.

  • Category 3 (Former Cricketers and Institutions): This specialised category will see 1 director elected to complete the 23-member elected board.
