Bangladesh High Commission in London Says Website Is Secure

The Bangladesh High Commission in London has rejected claims circulating on social media about its operations, stating that its official website is secure and that it has no direct control over visa-related servers, which are managed centrally by the relevant authorities in Bangladesh.

In a statement issued on Saturday, 24 October, the mission described the information circulating online as “misleading and baseless”. It warned that such claims could damage the High Commission’s reputation and create confusion among Bangladeshis living in the United Kingdom.

The mission said there was no reasonable basis for questioning the security or functionality of its official web portal. It also sought to clarify the division of responsibility between the High Commission in London and the authorities responsible for the country’s central visa infrastructure.

According to the statement, visa-related servers and associated technical systems are operated and maintained centrally from Bangladesh by the relevant authorities. The London mission therefore has no direct control over, or involvement in, their technical management and maintenance.

The High Commission argued that it should not be held directly responsible for technical or operational problems arising from those systems, given that their management falls outside its direct remit.

The clarification comes amid the circulation of claims about the mission’s services on social media. The statement did not identify specific posts or provide details of the allegations being addressed. However, it urged the public to avoid relying solely on unverified online information when assessing the High Commission’s work.

The mission said it makes every effort to provide visa and other consular services as quickly as possible when applicants submit all the required documents and accurate information. The processing of applications can involve several administrative and technical steps, making it important for applicants to follow the relevant requirements and seek clarification through official channels when necessary.

Visa and consular services are important for Bangladeshis living abroad, who may need assistance with travel documents, official paperwork and other administrative matters. Reliable access to these services, along with clear communication about application procedures, can help applicants understand the process and address difficulties more effectively.

The High Commission said protecting the interests and welfare of Bangladeshis living in the UK remained a major priority. Its responsibilities include providing necessary consular and other services, maintaining strong relationships with expatriate communities and assisting them on matters involving their legitimate rights and interests.

The mission also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Bangladesh’s image overseas and continuing to carry out its responsibilities with dedication.

It urged anyone with questions, complaints or concerns about its operations to verify information through the mission’s official communication channels or contact the High Commission directly. The statement advised against treating social media posts as authoritative without first checking their accuracy.

The mission also called for greater public awareness, responsible conduct and mutual co-operation to counter misinformation and ensure that people have an accurate understanding of its activities.

The statement drew a distinction between the security of the High Commission’s own website and the management of the central visa infrastructure. While the mission maintained that its website was secure, it said the visa-related servers were managed by the relevant authorities in Bangladesh rather than directly by the London office.

For applicants experiencing difficulties, the clarification underlines the importance of establishing the nature of a problem and identifying the responsible authority before drawing conclusions. The High Commission’s position is that concerns about its services should be raised through official channels, where they can be checked against reliable information rather than unverified claims circulating online.
