Bangladesh suffer crushing innings defeat against Zimbabwe in Test match

Bangladesh have slumped to a comprehensive innings and 85-run defeat against Zimbabwe after suffering a catastrophic batting collapse on the third day of the Test match. Facing a massive first-innings deficit of 270 runs, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side failed to offer any meaningful resistance in their second innings, succumbing rapidly to an disciplined Zimbabwean bowling attack.

The visitors had already faced an early setback late on the second day. Handed a brief nine-over spell before stumps, Bangladesh lost opener Shadman Islam, finishing the day precariously placed at 40 for the loss of one wicket. Resuming their uphill battle on the third morning, hopes of a resilient fightback were quickly dashed. The Bangladeshi batting line-up collapsed dramatically, failing to survive even two full sessions before being bundled out for a meagre 185 runs.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers set the tone early on day three, securing a crucial breakthrough in the second over of the morning. Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy added only a single run to the overnight total before misjudging a delivery from Richard Ngarava. Attempting to play on the back foot, Joy failed to bring his bat in line with the ball and was clean bowled.

The situation worsened for the visitors as veteran batsman Mominul Haque departed shortly after. Lured by an off-stump delivery from pace bowler Blessing Muzarabani, Mominul attempted an ambitious drive, only to edge the ball to the slip cordon. Brad Evans executed a spectacular diving catch to dismiss the former captain for 13, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 46 for 3.

A brief stabilising partnership followed as skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto paired up with the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim. However, neither could capitalise on their starts against a disciplined bowling display from the hosts. The middle order offered no salvation either, with emerging batsmen Towhid Hridoy and Amit Hasan failing to trouble the scorers significantly. Lacking the application required to occupy the crease and survive on a deteriorating pitch, the batting unit crumbled in rapid succession. This absolute capitulation ensured that the match concluded inside three days, handing Zimbabwe a famous victory.
