Foreign exchange rates remain closely watched in Bangladesh, where remittance inflows, international trade, overseas education, medical treatment and travel all contribute to sustained demand for foreign currencies. With more than 10 million Bangladeshis living and working abroad, the value of major currencies against the taka is particularly relevant to families receiving money from relatives overseas.

The US dollar remains one of the most closely monitored currencies because it is widely used in international trade and cross-border financial transactions. On the stated rate, one US dollar is valued at Tk 123.34. The British pound is higher at Tk 167.04, while one euro is quoted at Tk 145.03.

Foreign exchange rates are not fixed and can change at any time in response to movements in international currency markets, changes in supply and demand and broader economic developments. The rate available to customers may also differ between banks, authorised money changers and other financial institutions because of transaction margins and applicable charges.

People sending remittances to Bangladesh, as well as businesses involved in imports, exports and other international transactions, should therefore check the latest applicable rate with their relevant financial institution before completing a currency exchange or transfer.
