Bangladeshi Youth Killed in War

A Bangladeshi national from Mymensingh has been reported killed after taking part in the Russia–Ukraine war, according to his family and local sources. The deceased has been identified as Abdus Rahim (30), son of Azizul Haque from Putijana Namapara village under Phulbaria upazila.

Family members stated that Rahim travelled to Russia last year in an effort to improve his financial situation and support his household. He was regarded as the sole income earner in the family. According to relatives, he became engaged in hazardous work after going abroad. He maintained regular communication with his family until contact was abruptly lost a few days before the reported incident.

The family was later informed of his death on the night of 11 May through comrades and acquaintances. They stated that he was killed in a drone strike during the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict.

Rahim’s father, Azizul Haque, said that his son had been responsible for all household expenses and that the family has now been left in a difficult situation following his death. He requested that arrangements be made to repatriate his son’s remains to Bangladesh.

His maternal uncle, Afser Ali, stated that Rahim had become involved in the conflict after going abroad for financial reasons. He also called for swift action to bring the body home and for support to be extended to the bereaved family.

Local Member of Parliament, Principal Kamrul Hasan Milon, stated that efforts are being made to support the family and that necessary steps will be taken to facilitate the repatriation of the body. He also urged young people not to become involved in high-risk situations abroad due to financial pressure or inducement.
