BCB Condemns Attack On National Spinner Nayeem Hasan

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has declared a firm stance on safeguarding the rights and dignity of its players, following a physical assault on national off-spinner Nayeem Hasan. In an official statement released on Saturday morning, the national governing body expressed profound concern over the harassment and mistreatment the player endured at the hands of law enforcement personnel in Chittagong on Friday night.

The regulatory board has elevated the incident to a matter of premium significance, demanding a transparent, thorough, and unbiased investigation. The BCB stressed that the aggressive behavior directed towards an international sportsman is both highly inappropriate and deeply regrettable, necessitating immediate punitive action against the perpetrators.

Institutional Support and Administrative Coordination

Following the altercation, the BCB established immediate contact with the 26-year-old cricketer and his family. The board confirmed that it is maintaining regular communications to monitor his well-being while extending all necessary legal, medical, and institutional assistance.

“An unacceptable and inappropriate encounter with a national cricketer is highly regrettable,” the BCB press release stated. “The board views this matter with the utmost seriousness and believes that a swift and proper investigation into such an incident is necessary. The board expects that an impartial and full inquiry will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible.”

To facilitate a lawful resolution, the BCB management is collaborating directly with the Chittagong metropolitan administration and senior police officials. The board reiterated its structural commitment to protecting the welfare, security, and honor of all registered players, promising to track the progress of the official inquiry closely.

Interception at Lalkhan Bazar Flyover

The assault occurred while Hasan was returning to his private residence in Chittagong after competing in a domestic Dhaka Premier League match in the capital. Upon landing at Chittagong airport from Dhaka, the bowler chartered a three-wheeled motorized auto-rickshaw (CNG) for his onward journey.

The vehicle was subsequently intercepted by personnel identifying as members of the Detective Branch (DB) at the entrance of the Lalkhan Bazar flyover. Hasan was forcibly removed from the auto-rickshaw and compelled to board a police vehicle. The spinner verified that the personnel proceeded to physically assault and harass him, refusing to halt the violence even after he explicitly disclosed his identity as a representative of the Bangladesh national cricket team.
