BNP Expels Six Leaders

In Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled six of its local leaders for life following allegations of vandalism at a school farewell programme and inappropriate conduct towards teachers.

The decision was announced on Monday (20 April) through a press statement signed by Sreepur Upazila BNP convener Abdul Motaleb and member secretary Khairul Kabir Mondal Azad. The statement confirmed that the disciplinary action was taken based on specific allegations and verified information concerning an incident at Bashbari Adarsh High School.

According to the statement, the party remains committed to maintaining its organisational principles, unity, and discipline. It noted that on Sunday (19 April), during a farewell ceremony organised for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) candidates, certain individuals were involved in what it described as an unacceptable incident. The statement further alleged that they engaged in disrespectful behaviour towards teachers present at the event.

The programme, which began at approximately 10:30 am at Bashbari Adarsh High School in Gazipur Union under Sreepur upazila, was arranged by the school authorities to mark the farewell of SSC examinees. The incident reportedly occurred after a dispute linked to not being invited to the event. Allegations state that this led to disruption of the programme, including damage to the stage arrangements, and inappropriate conduct towards teachers.

Footage of the incident later circulated on social media, prompting public discussion and criticism at the local level. Following this, the party leadership reviewed the matter and decided to take organisational action against those involved.

The expelled individuals have been identified as follows:

The BNP statement also emphasised that the conduct of the individuals was deemed contrary to the party’s principles, objectives, and organisational interests. It described the actions as a serious breach of discipline, prompting the enforcement of internal disciplinary measures.

The decision marks the conclusion of internal proceedings following the incident at Bashbari Adarsh High School, where the farewell programme for SSC candidates was disrupted amid allegations involving local political figures and subsequent administrative review by the party.
